Dame Shirley Bassey led the way at the 2013 Oscars in a tribute to 50 years of Bond – and what a fabulous 50 years of Bond music there has been! Dame Shirley Bassey of course sang three of the Bond themes – Diamonds Are Forever, Moonraker and of course Goldfinger! You can’t mistake the deep, soaring, full vocals the very second that Dame Shirley Bassey sings her first note – and she has SUCH a powerful voice. Three fantastic and iconic Bond themes performed by one superstar! Of course the requisite head to toe in sequins, feathers and ooozing style naturally goes hand in hand with any Bond music! The Bond Tribute Band – The Name Is Band love these big, showy, ballsy numbers – having such an amazing brass section and ONLY ever performing live – we can certainly belt out the tune with style and finesse! And you should see the guys in head to toe sequins!!!
The latest Bond Film “Skyfall” broke more than its fair share of box office records! For bond music, and with the success of the latest Bond film, it was great to see how well the title song “Skyfall” did at the Oscars. For the musicians amongst us, it is hugely pleasing to see how important music is to the success of the bond films. This is obviously where our the Bond Tribute Band – The Name Is Band comes into its own. Being able to perform these great songs to a live audience is such a great opportunity. Many of the Bond songs are such a good example of how jazz, rock and orchestral styles can be fused together and they of course always sound best when played live! The Bond Tribute Band – The Name Is Band enjoys playing the songs and being part of such an amazing band with each instrument facing its own challenges and technicalities in the different bond music titles available. Long may it continue!
Well….. The Name Is Band – Bond Tribute Band has now recorded six songs for the live demo CD: Skyfall – Adele, Diamonds Are Forever – Shirley Bassey, From Russia With Love – Matt Munro, Live & Let Die – Wings, The Man With The Golden Gun – Lulu and Thunderball – Tom Jones.
Having now heard the recordings we are all VERY excited to share them with everyone. But we can’t just yet! We can stamp our feet all we like aka Verucca Salt but we have to be really patient! The recording of the live band sounds phat (that’s how the young ones are saying it!), awesome, full, bursting with attitude, depth and is thoroughly Pussy GALORE GOLDEN!
Live & Let Die is the theme music for the James Bond film of the same name. Featuring for the first time as the new James Bond: Sir Roger Moore. This theme was written by Paul and Linda McCartney and performed by his band Wings. This is such a great theme and The Name Is Band – Bond Tribute Band love playing this number. Often we’ve been lucky enough to play in a venue that doesn’t have a smoke detector and we’ve been permitted to bring along pyrotechnics – perfect for Live & Let Die when the drums kick in and the pace changes. Awesome Bond theme.
We really want to share it with everyone so just send a secret encoded message (email Sarah) and, as soon as they are back from the printers and safely cocooned in her warm, soft secret service secretarial hands – she’ll get one out to you immediately!
Wow! What an amazing week for awards – Adele especially with an Oscar and a Brit Award following her fantastic version of Skyfall.
Well, a little closer to home, an exciting week has also been had by The Name Is Band the Bond Tribute Band! We spent some time in the recording studio where we planned on recording just five tracks – we couldn’t help ourselves and ended up recording an extra one and rounding it up to six!
It was too difficult to choose only five Bond themes from all the Bond music available! To be completely honest, the whole band would have been quite happy to stay and record all of them giving the opportunity as we were having such a great time! With Adele winning an Oscar and a Brit Award for Skyfall we had to record it – there was no question we had to record it – so we have included this one and it sounds AMAZING!
So six new numbers are in the bag and a new demo CD with them on will be available soon. If you want one then it will be available mid March – just contact Miss Moneyspent and she’ll send one out to you!

Are you planning a James Bond Themed Event? Have you thought about what entertainment to have as well?
There is nothing that can compare to live music – when it’s done properly that is! The Bond songs, mainly written by John Barry, are technical, have a huge amount of light and shade to them but, more importantly, all the Bond Theme Songs are totally AWESOME! Each one is different, each offers something new and challenging. That’s why the Bond Tribute Band – The Name Is Band enjoy playing them.
The Name Is Band – Bond Tribute Band are capable of reproducing the many technicalities involved with the theme songs each and every time. Absolutely NO backing tracks in sight! We ONLY ever play totally LIVE and with a full complement of musicians.
We don’t scale down or up to suit a budget – we give a clear, all inclusive price for a whole evenings entertainment that is extremely competitive for a fantastic live band.
You’ve put so much effort and time into ensuring the venue looks amazing – why stop there and provide your guests with someone performing to a backing track? Go that small extra mile and really ensure that YOUR event is the ONLY event that everyone will be talking about from start to finish.
Let’s face it, if you wanted people to be dancing to pre-recorded music you may as well put a CD on! A fun, professional, reliable, talented and LIVE performance by the UK’s ultimate Bond Tribute and Party Band! Contact us for more information on how to book.
Sean Connery, the suave, the sophisticated, the sexy vocal tones that can melt ice with a single breath – faced the evil Ernst Stavro Blofeld but meets the rather fetching Plenty O Toole at the Casino tables in the Bond film Diamonds are Forever.
Dame Shirley Bassey sang the theme song to the Bond film and gives a passionate and powerful performance. A gentle start to the theme song that quickly picks up speed and passion with big vocals that Lustre on! The lyrics, if a little saucy and a tad risque in places, are wonderful and have the classic feel and sound to a Bond theme by the illustrious John Barry! One of our favourite theme tunes to play and perform! An absolute classic!
This is our version of Diamonds are Forever
Nobody Does It Better...yes, we know this is a Bond theme – but it is also a statement of fact! We’d like to introduce you to The Bond Tribute Band – The Name Is Band.
We will be recording some new Bond Theme tunes during February and we can’t wait! We only have enough time to record five songs and it’s really hard choosing from all the songs available: Shirley Bassey did a couple of big showy, brassy numbers; Diamonds Are Forever and Goldfinger, Sheena Easton with the lovely gentle For Your Eyes Only, Tina Turner with Goldeneye, Lulu with The Man With The Golden Gun. and of course Carly Simon with Nobody Does It Better.
Not forgetting the male vocalists – we have the amazing Gavin Lazarus on vocals with the smooth, velvety tones mirroring those of Matt Munro in From Russia With Love, the ballsy Tom Jones with Thunderball, Wings and Live and Let Die, Skyfall, Adele... the list goes on and the decision isn’t an easy one to make! If you have an opinion then let us know – join us on Facebook for all the regular news and information and put your two pennyworth in! We’d love to hear from you – and love some help choosing the songs to record!
Check out our previously recorded Bond themes – these were done about 7 years ago now by the Bond Tribute Band – The Name Is Band:
“Thank you so much for such a fabulous evening! We were very appreciative for how smooth the night went, particularly the band. You most definitely were an outstanding highlight, I believe both sets worked out in the evening very well with the Bond set adding some sophistication to our theme & then the second set brought everyone together on the dance floor. Many of our staff were praising the live performance! I will have no hesitation to return to you in the future & in recommending your group.”
